Director of Youth and Family Ministries

    Position: King of Glory Lutheran Church — Dallas, Texas
    The Director of Youth and Family Ministry is responsible for the visioning, leadership, and implementation of all educational, fellowship and service activities for the youth, 6th-12th grade, and their families. This position will also have oversight of staff for Children’s Ministry (birth through 5th grade).

    Specific responsibilities:

     Senior High Youth Ministry Leadership 

    • Oversee and implement youth ministry programming, including Sunday School, service, fellowship, and mission programs and events. 
    • Ensure that all curriculum, program, and event content is in harmony with our King of Glory Vision, the YM Mission Statement and is consistent with Lutheran heritage. 
    • Evaluate existing programs and events; improve what’s working and fix what isn’t. 
    • Propose, lead, and evaluate new opportunities for youth to connect, learn, serve, andlead. 
    • Communicate Youth Ministry plans, goals, and successes to youth, parents, and the congregation with the goal of greater generational integration across the KOGcommunity. 
    • Create and implement programs and events that help our youth navigate different environments as they engage in post high school pursuits. 
    • Work closely with Administrative Assistant to communicate upcoming, trips, programs events, etc. 
    • Plan, promote and lead in an annual summer mission trip. 
    • Plan, promote and lead in an annual Discipleship Camp experience. 
    • Recruit, train, and supervise leaders and volunteers for Sr. High Sunday School andyouth activities. 

    Junior High Youth Ministry Leadership 

    • Oversee the confirmation program. Build and maintain the curriculum and process. In consultation with the Senior Pastor, assure Confirmation activities and teachings are consistent with the Lutheran (ELCA) tradition, doctrinal heritage, and KOG community. 
    • Provide leadership for the adult volunteers and Confirmation students during the schoolyear. 
    • Recruit, train, and supervise leaders and volunteers for Jr. High Sunday School,Confirmation and youth activities. 
    • Plan, promote and lead in an annual summer mission trip. 
    • Plan, promote and lead in an annual Discipleship Camp experience. 

    General Leadership 

    • Take advantage of other teaching and educationalopportunities. 
    • Coordinate ministry needs between the staff and congregation. 
    • Develop a team of members to support ministry areas. See YMAT below. 
    • Be actively involved with worship, planning, and general leadership. 
    • Participate in and lead special services such as Advent, Lent and confirmation. 

     

    Provide for “Ministry of Presence” 

    • Be a model for a safe and joyful workplace to foster an environment open learning,fellowship and service. Help create a community that people want to be, learn, and live in together.
    • Reach out to o Youth who are not active. 
    • Youth who are active in Youth Ministry to encourage continued and deepened involvement. 
    • Ensure that programming is welcoming to friends, acquaintances, and visitors. Encourage youth to invite non-members to participate. 
    • Develop personal and mutually supportive relationships with parents, youth and congregation members who interact with youth on a regular basis to encourage development of Christian relationships between those adults and youth. Help create that community. 

    Family Ministry Leadership 

    • ● Provide oversight of the Children’s Ministry Coordinator and the Family Ministry Administrative Assistant. 
    • Nurture the communication process to keep youth, parents, volunteers, and members informed and connected at all stages and ages. 
    • Develop programs and procedures to invite, encourage, and support parents and adult volunteers with the goal of increasing commitment and participation of adults at all levels. 
    • Cultivate cross-generational opportunities for youth and congregation. 

    Administrative 

    • Recruit and lead a Youth Ministry Advisory Team (YMAT) to function as advocates and partners in visioning and feedback. 
    • Maintain records of all program activities, active and inactive youth, visitors, and volunteers. 
    • Develop, maintain, and manage the Youth Ministry budget. 
    • Attend and actively participate in regularmeetings. 
    • Participate in Continuing Education programs and events. 

    Education 

    • Strongly prefer candidates with Bachelors or Masters in Youth & Family related Ministry. Would prefer education and/or work experience with full communion partners of the ELCA. 

    Reporting Structure 

    • The Director for Youth and Family Ministry will report to the Senior Pastor.
