1950's

Original location on Willow LaneThe name "King of Glory", taken from Psalm 24, was given to our church in 1957 - the first Lutheran Church by that name in the United States. The original congregation of 33 people met at Preston Hollow Elementary School in Dallas with Pastor Harold Pearson as the mission developer. With a loan from people in a small farming community in Iowa, land was purchased and construction began on Willow Lane in Dallas. Dedication took place May 18, 1958.

1960's
First facility on LBJ FreewayIn 1960, the membership had risen to 203 baptized, 106 confirmed. Average Sunday attendance was 99 and a budget of $17,000.

Pastor William Slaughter arrived in 1964 to lead this steadily growing congregation. The location of KOG changed, a new sanctuary and education facility were completed by our tenth anniversary at the present site on LBJ Freeway.

1970's
Membership had doubled by 1970 and in March of 1972, Pastor Jon Lee brought his family from Wisconsin to King of Glory. More education space and a new addition were soon provided for this rapidly growing membership.

1980's

In 1984, our facility was expanded with a new sanctuary. The gold leaf depiction of the Trinity on the reredos wall was designed by South Dakota native Bob Aldern.

1990's
By 1995, membership had expanded to over 1800. This year also marked the completion of a seven year project when a pipe organ built by Rosales Organ Builders was installed.

2000's

As we begin the new century, our expanded education and activities facilities provide opportunities and challenges for ministries and missions.
