Service of Celebration

Bishop Hanson to Celebrate 50th
on November 23

ELCA Presiding Bishop Mark S. Hanson will preach on Sunday, November 23, at all three services in celebration and gratitude for King of Glory’s 50 years of ministry and mission. A light lunch and Q&A session with the bishop will follow the last service.

Highly respected as a religious leader, Bishop Hanson was among 12 of the world’s most influential spiritual leaders featured in a primetime special aired on CBS last December. In “In God’s Name,” he and others, including Pope Benedict XVI, the Dalai Lama, Chief Rabbi of Israel Yona Metzger, and Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, spoke out about hatred and violence in the world and revealed their own thoughts about faith, hope, tolerance, and peace.

Bishop Hanson was elected presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in 2001, after serving as pastor of three Minnesota congregations. Since 2003 he has also been president of the Lutheran World Federation. He is an advocate for social justice, especially issues that impact the poor in the areas of racial justice, housing, welfare rights, and immigration. The ELCA has nearly 10,500 congregations across the U.S., Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands and nearly 5 million members.

Former pastors and past members have been invited to join us for this special event. All members are encouraged to invite friends and neighbors to hear Bishop Hanson’s Christ the King Sunday message.
