Martin’s Music Café is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit live music venue hosted in the Fellowship Hall of King of Glory Lutheran Church in Dallas, TX. Held once a month on Friday nights (7:30 PM - 9:30 PM), our concerts create an inviting and intimate setting for music lovers and artists alike.

We celebrate the rich traditions of folk, blues, country, jazz, and American/Texan roots music, providing a welcoming stage for singer-songwriters and talented musicians. Inspired by the legacy of Uncle Calvin’s Coffeehouse (1983-2019), we aim to continue the tradition of offering high-quality, acoustic music performances in a listening-room environment—free from distractions like smoking, alcohol sales, or excessive noise.

Attendees can enjoy a relaxed table-seating experience with a selection of coffees, teas, snacks, and desserts available before the show and during intermission. Whether you're a music enthusiast or simply looking for a warm, inviting night out, we invite you to join us at Martin’s Music Café for an unforgettable evening of live music and community.

Dana Cooper and Songbird Jones (Opening Act)

Friday, November 14th

Dana Cooper's decades of experience shine through in the ease and humor he brings to both his playing and storytelling. Though he's performed with Folk and Americana greats, Cooper has always followed his own musical vision. Central to Cooper's unique artistry is his ability to connect with audiences through his authentic stories and warm stage presence.  Dana's mixture of flat-picking, finger picking, and percussive strumming makes him a legend among other guitarists. His harmonica playing is equally impressive.  As one critic noted, "he sings like an angel and plays like the devil."  Dana's 32nd studio album, “The Ghost of Tucumcari”, released in May of  2024 and featuring an all-star lineup of guest artists including Lyle Lovett, Hayes Carll, and Darden Smith, "is 5 star Grammy material" = Shake Russell.  "Dana has a poet's eye for beauty & detail, a blue's man's soul & a songbird's gift. He is remarkable." - Hayes Carll.

Songbird Jones is Roots Country, songwriter driven music from Fort Worth, TX. Matt Jones finds his home writing songs about people and the places they call sacred. Songs about anything from gourds to horses, cowgirls, good girls, bad girls, big cities and small towns. The obscure and the obvious. Taking those original songs and playing them to a live audience is the driving force behind the heart of Songbird Jones.

November 1, 2025  --  J. Plank (Jeff Plankenhorn) and Helene Cronin (Opening Act)

Plank is a highly respected musician known for his skill as a slide guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist. He’s gained recognition both as a solo artist and as a sought-after session musician. Plank’s musical style encompasses elements of blues, folk, Americana, and roots music, creating a sound that’s uniquely his own.

For Jeff Plankenhorn, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of bringing people together to experience the joy music brings. He’s so good at it that he’s been recognized with Austin Music Award nominations for Musician of the Year, Best Guitarist, and a win Best Misc. Instrument – for “The Plank” a hybrid lap steel guitar Jeff designed himself. In 2016-2017, he also earned Album and Song of the Year nominations for his album, SoulSlide, and the single “Trouble Find Me.” Listeners quickly get that Plank loves a good groove, but he’s also become quite accomplished at composing ballads.

These days, Plank happily finds himself on the road over 150 days a year. “I like the idea that people get uplifted at my shows; just one of the great ways to escape the hubbub of day-to-day living. I like the idea that everybody who walks in — I don’t care if you’re a biker or a drag queen — I want you there. Music is supposed to bring people together.”

Hannah Aldridge & Melanie MacLaren

Hannah Aldridge grew up on the muddy banks of Muscle Shoals—her birthright is music and Alabama (she’s the daughter of Hall of Fame writer Walt Aldridge). A reckoning between her coming-of-age in the South and a lifetime of trying to create an identity outside of it, her songs strike a delicate balance between rebellion and self-discovery. With a voice that is equal parts gritty and melodic, Hannah took to the road with her acclaimed debut album Razor Wire, superb follow-up Gold Rush and Live in Black and White. Aldridge expanded her artistic vision with 2023’s ambitious, cinematic Dream of America, which  peers through the lens of fading Hollywood starlets, charming psychopaths and weary vagabonds - navigating society’s underbelly through dark, romantic vignettes.

Melanie MacLaren’s deliberate, soul-stirring voice, wistful guitar playing, and keen ability to write about life as if life were writing itself is everything you could want from a modern folk musician. Her lyrics have been described as “haunting yet humorous” and possessing a “sentimental cynicism” that “oozes with Gen-Z relatability.” This duality shines through in all aspects of her music— she’s a classic finger-style guitar who grew up playing classical but uses ambient beds and distorted traditional instruments to punctuate her compositions. Melanie’s latest EP, Bloodlust, is part of a larger album project due out in the summer of 2025. Drawing deeply from 90’s alt-country influences, with notes of Lucinda Williams, The Silver Jews, Gillian Welch, and John Prine, it brings out Melanie’s inborn classic Americana sensibilities while staying true to her instinct for flipping conventions of genre and subject matter on their heads.

With a career spanning decades, Dan Navarro is perhaps best known as songwriter for artists as diverse as Jackson Browne, Keb’ Mo’ and Pat Benatar (Grammy-nominated classic “We Belong”). A multi-talented performer, Dan is a singer, a songwriter and a voice actor in major motion pictures, TV, & commercials...including last year's hit Disney Film ENCANTO.

Dan’s songs are rich with insight and life experience, delivered straight-up, with honesty, grace and heart, in his moving and expressive baritone voice. Having released a dozen albums (solo & as Lowen&Navarro,) Dan released his first solo album “Shed My Skin” in 2019. Horizon Line, his most recent album, was produced by multiple Grammy®-winner Jim Scott (Tom Petty, Wilco, Dixie Chicks, as well as the first five Lowen&Navarro albums) in a dozen sessions in mid-2021 and a dozen more in spring 2022.

Dan will be joined by Jesse Lynn Madera, making this a night you don't want to miss!
